We Fell In Love At the Fair

2012: Coworkers

The first time Aaron and I went to the fair we were just coworkers. I kinda liked him and he kinda liked me, but neither of us wanted to admit it because we were coworkers. On top of that, I was going to go back to school at the end of the summer, and I wasn’t into long-distance back then. Little did I know how much this guy would end up meaning to me. Essentially, the fair is where we kicked off our relationship.

We had fun at the fair but it was actually a little awkward, we both brought friends (his sister and my BFF) because we weren’t sure if it was a date or not. We rode some rides, walked around, and ate sooo much food. After that day, we pretty much hung out every day for the rest of the summer.

2013: Couple

The second time we went to the fair, it marked a year of dating. We were still coworkers, but we went to the fair as a couple. This time it was just us two, no friends lol. We don’t mind going to places alone because we always have fun when its just us. We ate some potato chips, walked around the fair, and went on some of the rides. And of course he played the carnival games and won a monkey in a banana for me. We also took pictures in the photo booth.

2014: Cohabitants

This was the third year in a row we went to the fair together, so I think it’s safe to say it’s officially our tradition now. It marked two years of dating as well as a month of living together. We were going to go to the Beer Fest but changed plans last minute. Some people think the fair is boring because it’s the same thing every year, but for us, its fun every time. We did the usual stuff, walked around, went on the rides (the ferris wheel of course) and ate a ton of food! Of course we took pictures in the photo booth (we went black and white this year) and he won a stuffed minion for me!!! I love minions!!! They are my favorite characters ever!

I think its important to have traditions in a relationship, a thing you do together every year. For us, the fair has a lot of meaning, we fell in love at the fair. It marks another year we survived long-distance and it’s a celebration of our relationship and love for each other even though it’s not our anniversary. As long as we live in San Diego, we will always go to the Del Mar Fair. And if we live somewhere else, we will find a new tradition.

  1. That’s a lovely tradition; I love the fair! Also I will so be taking some photobooth photos and using them as a bookmark now! I love photobooth photos and I need a bookmark :p

Growing up in a small town our Fall Fair was basically the only thing that happened all year and it was a HUGE deal. I just wish my man could come to the fair so I could show him off a little 😉 Plus it’s always on Thanksgiving weekend and they don’t have Thanksgiving in the UK so it would be a neat time for him to be here. Maybe one year 🙂

Looks like you guys had a great time!
